Drink with Purpose: Supporting Independent Agave Spirits

Drink with Purpose: Supporting Independent Agave Spirits

March 20, 2025

Yuku Savi: Now available in Oregon, coming soon to Colorado!
Yuku Savi is setting the bar for sustainability in agave spirits production. In 2024, we expanded our ecological restoration program, welcoming five more families and bringing the total to 10 actively restoring their lands. The team also reinvested 34% of our profits into research and ecological restoration, reinforcing our commitment to responsible mezcal production.

Our conservation efforts made significant progress in 2024: 50,000 agaves were acclimatized, while another 50,000 are germinating in our nurseries, ensuring a sustainable future for traditional agave spirits. Additionally, we planted nearly 10,000 agaves across five hectares of natural forest to restore biodiversity and combat overharvesting. Beyond agave, we supported local farmers in creating their first batch of jams from native fruits that were previously underutilized—pitaya, xoconoxtle, chupandía, and jiotilla—helping generate new sources of income.

Another exciting step forward is the upcoming launch of Yuku Zaanchico, our new agroecological and environmental education center. This space will serve as a hub for sustainability education, fostering knowledge exchange and a deeper connection between mezcal and its environment. Please get in touch if you’re planning a trip to the Mixteca region and would like to visit!

By choosing Yuku Savi, you’re not just drinking mezcal, you’re supporting a movement that values tradition, sustainability, and community.

When Punch featured the Capri Sour, Capri Club chose Agua del Sol Espadín for its beautifully balanced herbaceous and woodsy complexity. This recognition highlights the artistry behind each bottle and showcases the versatility of Espadín in modern cocktails. Like our readers, Capri Club understands that Agua del Sol Espadín is produced in small batches, meaning each release has subtle variations in its flavor profile, an authentic reflection of the terroir and artisanal production process. While we often prefer to sip it neat and reflect on those nuances, we always love to see how our friends use it in their drinks.

While the Capri Sour is one of our favorite cocktails to make at home, folks that have been to Capri Club know their drinks have a signature that’s tough to replicate. If you’re in LA and haven’t made the trek, make the Capri Sour your reason to visit. And if that’s just not in the cards for you, check out the feature and try it for yourself!

Support Independent, Mexican-Owned Brands
The spirits industry was already a shark tank. Throw in an occasional tariff threat, and before we know it, all the best juice from small producers will be folded into Southern or snuffed out altogether. With potential tariffs on the horizon and economic uncertainty making it harder to do business, independent brands and importers are at risk. Failing to support them now could lead to industry consolidation or even the disappearance of many small, family-owned distilleries. Our founder recently spoke on this issue in an article, shedding light on the pressing challenges and what’s at stake for the future of mezcal. Now more than ever, your choices matter.

How You Can Help
Supporting independent mezcal producers doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are three simple ways to make a difference:

  1. Share our blog with someone you know who enjoys agave spirits. Sharing is caring, and word-of-mouth is powerful.
  2. If you know someone who owns or runs a (licensed) bar, tell them about our mezcales, and if you think there’s a potential fit, please let us know; leads like these have not only converted new accounts but created opportunities for new friendships.

Buy a bottle for your friend or colleague (here) or, better yet, purchase one for yourself and share it! Nothing beats experiencing mezcal together.
